About Shobana Powell Consulting

We are a team of national advocate and survivor experts as well as consultants advocating at the intersections of human trafficking and systemic oppression. What we love to do is create innovative programs, develop and facilitate customized training, and provide technical assistance for nonprofits and government entities engaged in the movement to end gender-based violence and human trafficking. Our work is centered on our values. We focus on supporting racial justice, survivor-led work, and LGBTQ+ and immigrant rights. We believe that our work should be led by the communities we serve. Building on the doctoral research of our CEO & Founder, Dr. Shobana Powell, DSW, LCSW, our clients at Shobana Powell Consulting benefit from organizational management tools and program design models that center survivors as key experts and leaders. These approaches are also used when leading and managing our own team of consultants. These include the: - Survivor Equity and Inclusion Framework. replacing the re-exploitation of Survivor Leaders (undercompensating, undervaluing, and tokenizing) in the movement to end trafficking - Survivor-Centered Design & Curriculum Development Model, utilizing design thinking to co-create training with the communities we serve Our goal is to support and empower existing programs, continue challenging systemic oppression, and do so with creativity, positivity and joy. This work is not easy, but when we support one another and share power, we can acknowledge our primary and vicarious trauma and strengthen our collective resilience.
