About SHPE George Mason University

George Mason Universities SHPE chapter, located in region fours Northern Virginia. Our chapter is striving to promote Hispanics in STEM through professional development, community involvement, and community outreach. The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (pronounced Sh-eh-p) is a national non-profit organization that is focused on the concept of networking toward improving ones professional development. The GMU chapter of SHPE was established in 1994 to bring together like minded students in SHPE's 6 pillars - Career development, leadership development, professional development, chapter "familia" development, STEM pipeline development (professional-student chapter interaction), and community service. SHPE is open to all degree seeking students (not only engineers and not only Latinxs) who share SHPE's mission of changing lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development.
