SILLEKNOTTE is a small maker of high quality leather goods located at Frederiksberg in Copenhagen, Denmark. Iben Friis Alexandersen established the shop in 2016 and has been working with leather since 2010, particularly harness leather. Both the design process and manufacturing take place in workshop, immediately adjoining the shop. Using traditional leather working tools and techniques every item is handmade. HARNESS LEATHER Harness leather is greatly influenced by its environment and will initially change colour when exposed to sunlight. The coloured leathers will become lighter as time passes, whereas the natural colour will become darker, ageing to a beautiful dark caramel brown and will burnish darker in places often touched. Harness leather will also turn slightly softer over time. Unlike a material that is mass produced, each piece of leather is one of a kind. Harness leather has a character of its own and often displaying natural markings that lend beauty and refinement to the material. LIFELONG PRODUCTS The collection consists of accessories e.g. bags, wallets, key holders and belts and interiors objects such as mirrors, paper basket, coasters, handles and baskets for smaller items and chairs (ie. harness leather upholstery for chairs). All of which is made of high quality harness leather. The design is simple and Scandinavian, some might even say a little Japanese in its rustic simplicity and understated elegance. Due to the material and the method of manufacture, each product is extremely durable and develops a beautiful patina over time. “I believe that the products I create should last for many years – a lifetime even – carried and used daily, mirroring a unique and individual lifestyle. That is the spirit in which they were created.”
