When words are lost by dementia, music remains. And in that music, we find connection, dignity, and joy. Sing Out Choir is a grassroots movement based in Dubbo, NSW, using the power of song to reconnect people living with dementia, disability, and their carers. For many, it’s the only space where they feel truly heard - and deeply seen. Founded by Registered Nurse and Dementia Counsellor Anne Gemmell, once setup funding was secured, Pianist Sharon Simons and Conductor Camilla Ward joined Anne. Sing Out proves that even when language disappears, the human spirit still finds a way to speak. Every Tuesday, voices return. Smiles reappear. And lives shift - even just for a moment. What We Offer: - Weekly choir sessions that restore memory, mood, and connection - Lunch provided each week enhances socialisation - Support and peer respite for carers - Walking groups to foster wellbeing and routine - Help navigating the My Aged Care system and support referral support - A bold ambition to live-stream sessions into homes, hospitals, multi-purpose centres and aged care facilities We've already supported over 170 participants, creating real moments of transformation - from non-verbal members singing fluently to carers rediscovering connection.
