About SIReL - Structural Integrity Research Laboratory
The Structural Integrity Research Laboratory (SIReL) is a research group at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) that is dedicated to the study of the integrity of materials and structures. SIReL's main focus is to contribute to the understanding of fracture and fatigue mechanisms, the development of new materials, and the design of safer and more reliable structures, including a wide range of engineering structures. SIReL is composed of a multidisciplinary team of researchers from different engineering fields. The main areas of research and technological innovation are as follows: a) Fracture and fatigue behavior (Structural Integrity) of materials and structures; b) Probabilistic modeling of fatigue of metallic materials; c) Computer-aided structural integrity; d) Structural Integrity of components manufactured by addition; e) Renewable energies and oceanic technologies; f) Coastal and oceanic environment modeling; g) Coastal infrastructures, ports and logistics; h) Physical modeling and reliability applied to structural systems; i) Multimodeling of materials and components; j) Development of new materials and reinforcement of existing materials; k) Probabilistic sizing of glass structural elements; l) Mechanical behavior of wood materials and structures; m) Mechanical and chemical characterization of mortars and old masonry structures.
