About Sister-Corps: Serving Others
Among the organizations doing disaster relief and recovery work, we stand apart from others as an all-women’s group. Sister-Corps serves others in rapid response, relief, recovery, community service and environmental response. We have distinguished ourselves as an all-volunteer group who pay our own way to travel across the country to work long hard days while taking the heart of service. Although we are not “first responders”, Sister-Corps finds ways to do “rapid response” and help in the earliest days after the incident. We partnered with others for the delivery of desperately needed health and hygiene items to the Navajo Nation in the Four Corners during the height of COVID-19 by sending thousands of dollars in requested items directly to the Navajo distribution centers. Relief - help remove obstacles to recovery and rebuilding. Sister-Corps tackles interior or exterior debris removal. Recovery - the long-term work of putting homes and lives back together. Skilled women that install flooring, sheetrock, tape, float, texture, paint, build decks and mobility ramps. Community Needs - responding to a critical shortage of blood and blood products nationwide, our volunteers across the nation galvanized their state into getting volunteers. When our volunteers see community needs, they put a regional project into motion from a charitable house painting for a disabled person to a paint job for a neglected county park in Minnesota. Or, in another situation, a seriously neglected, but historic cemetery in Spokane (WA). Environment - another area of service to others is to hold projects that assist in keeping our natural world a better place. These have ranged from a river clean-up, to a wildfire mitigation project in the high mountains of Colorado, to a partnership with Sequoia National Park to work under the direction of the Rangers in preservation programs.
