About Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George
We are a Catholic Congregation of women religious whose presence throughout the world strives "to make the merciful love of Christ visible in our service." We were founded in 1869 in Thuine, Germany and came to the United States in 1923. We currently sponsor Saint Anthony's Health Center and St. Francis Day Care Center in Alton, IL and Mother of Good Counsel Home in St. Louis, MO. We have Sisters who teach, who minister to Cardinals, Bishops, and Priests, and who serve in health care throughout the United States in eight States, 12 Dioceses, and many schools and parishes. We are 124 Sisters strong and God continues to bless our Community with vocations.
