About Skillman Family Association

Thomas Skillman arrived in North America in 1664 as a soldier on board the ship Guinea, one of four warships sent by the Duke of York to take New Amsterdam from the Dutch. As a result, he settled first in New York, and then in New Jersey where his son, also Thomas Skillman, had five sons. The town of Skillman, New Jersey still exists to this day. The Skillman Family Association, Inc. was established as a 501(c)(3) entity in 2012 by several descendants of Thomas Skillman for the purpose of preserving the Skillman Family historical record, supporting new research, and providing a forum for members to enjoy the benefits of contact with their relatives and friends. A Skillman Family DNA Project has also been established through Family Tree DNA.
