Social and Labour Plans for mines should not be abstract. It should be practical, compliant and easy to implement. SLPs have moved from the Biblical proportion sizes of the olden era to succinct documents that set practical targets that can be measured, verified and audited. It is not the amount of pages that matters today, it is achieving the targets as set in the Mining Charter. Social and Labour Plans have been around for 14 years, and SLP4Good compiled the first SLP in 2002, before the MPRDA was promulgated in 2004. Since that date, we have co-created with our mining clients well over a hundred SLPs and we haven’t had one submission declined by the DMR. Our SLP Tracker manages and tracks all your SLP Commitments. We have found that on average a mine makes no fewer than 151 commitments in a SLP. Some commitments are procedural, eg submitting reports, others are internal to the organisation, for example HRD and requires action, and last there are commitments externally to the mine, such as LED projects and stakeholder meetings. SLP Tracker is a web based SharePoint application developed by us. SharePoint is almost freeware provided by Microsoft, and has been around for many decades. It is tried and tested software and integrates seamlessly with MS Windows and Office. There are different methods of implementing SharePoint, for example your mine’s server may already have it, or a license can be obtained from Microsoft. In addition to that, you are welcome to come on our own SharePoint Online tracker where we create your users and we manage your tracker from there. The SharePoint tracker can be summarised as follows: Imagine you use Spreadsheets, and this spreadsheet can be used by all at the same time. In addition to this, imagine all your tasks and commitments are managed on your Outlook, and everybody has access to this. Imagine you can draw reports from all this information come year end.
