About Small Ball United
Developed around core skills, Small Ball United displays an aggressive level of competition with a focus on players under 5'1" tall. Additionally, our games are played on rims set to 8'6". While perhaps different for many parents and players, this brand of basketball had the endorsement of Kobe Bryant who told SI in an interview, "I think we’re putting too much pressure on these kids too early, and they’re not learning proper technique of how to shoot the ball. When I grew up, we actually played on lower hoops so we could learn to shoot with proper technique. We could go and try a reverse layup." Small Ball United, however, is as much about the experience off the court as it is on the court. SB United instills in our players both basketball and life skills essential to succeed in both. We provide an unparalleled experience based on equality, sportsmanship and competition. Our volunteer board members and coaches teach character and an understanding of all cultures. Those lessons culminate in our "3Cs" approach. Character: Giving thought to the feelings and value that impact our behavior and choices, SB United recognize areas of personal strength, challenge and opportunity, teaching players to operate with integrity on and off the court. Culture: We strive to understand, value and honor the diverse experiences of the entire SBU community. Using basketball as a tool, we shape and strengthen culturally-inclusive programming that honors both what makes us different and the game that unites us. Competition: Win or lose, the most important thing ot bring to the court is your best. That means your best ability, focus and attitude. This healthy competitive outlook fosters a deep respect for the game and the versatile talent of our players. We're setting our kids up now for wins and losses later in life.
