About Small Kane Architects

Our firm was founded in 1949, by the late G. Milton Small, Jr., FAIA, and was established as a sole proprietorship. He moved to Raleigh in 1948 from Chicago where he studied under Mies van der Rohe at the Illinois Institute of Technology. After a year of working as chief designer for a prominent local firm, he opened his own office as G. Milton Small, Architect, with one residential client. The firm has been in continuous practice since then, and has received numerous design awards throughout our rich history. The firm is now overseen by our second generation principals, G. Milton Small, III, AIA, and Kerry Alan Kane, AIA. We are unique among the design firms of this region, as architecture and interior design have always been woven tightly together in its projects with one discipline effortlessly dovetailing with the other. During the last decade, we have concentrated our efforts in the educational, corporate, commercial, financial, health care, and resort development markets. Most importantly, we are specialists in client satisfaction. Our philosophy is simple and straightforward. Each project, client, and relationship is unique and different. Quality design, responsiveness to the clients' needs and relationship building are key ingredients to a successful business.
