Small Things Foundation is a Cape Town–based nonprofit (NPO 297-207) committed to finding small, effective ways to address big social challenges. We manage and develop grassroots social development, helping their teams improve programs, expand operations and become self-sustainable. We fundraise and manage all finances through a 100% Transparent Open Accounts system, making sure that the funding is put to maximum best use. Founded by Jamie Nye, a passionate youth mentor and certified surf coach, the foundation builds on years of direct community involvement and leadership. Jamie's innovative work with the team from the Local Surf Lounge Academy revealed the power of surf, structure, and community to change lives. The Academy has gone from barely surviving, to thriving, in the 2 years of Small Things Foundation involvement. Key features at our Local Surf Lounge Academy in Muizenberg: · Child protection and support: positive male role-models, building Self-Love and Self-Respect · Nutritional care: daily hot meals and hygiene resources at no cost · Positive activities: A lot of surfing + hiking, skateboarding, swimming · Education support, free wifi, creative workshops For youth aged 16–18, we offer a second-phase programme focused on education, skills, and employment opportunities. We believe that when youth feel safe, seen, and supported, real change happens. Our approach is low-cost, high-impact, and community-led.
