Based in Indianapolis, Smart Apply®, Inc., is a fast-growing agtech company and creator of the Smart-Apply® Intelligent Spray Control System™ that delivers a one-of-a-kind precision spraying and precision data solution to growers of high-value specialty crops. The Smart Apply System uses LiDAR to apply chemical to individual trees, vines, hops, and nursery plants based on size and foliage density. The precise application of chemicals replaces the costly clouds of chemicals uniformly delivered by traditional air blast sprayers. This approach reduces overall chemical use and costs by an average of 50% while supporting healthy crop yields. Additionally, Smart Apply's precision spraying reduces chemical run-off and air borne drift up to 92% and 87% respectively, for an environmentally friendly solution. The Smart Apply System also has a data component, automatically capturing data during each spray event that serves as a digital record of each spray event. It documents date and time of spraying, volume of chemicals applied, tree counts, tractors speeds, and more. Such data is critical in supporting farm operations and meeting reporting requirements for government bodies, export regulations, brands and various sustainability reporting. Growers also have the option to integrate their data with the John Deere Operations Center for additional analytics and benefits. The Smart Apply Intelligent Spray Control System is sold as a kit that growers can install on existing or new air blast, GUSS and over-the-row sprayers. The system is compatible with virtually any brand. Smart Apply was acquired by the John Deere in July 2023 and is now a John Deere company.
