SMARTHEAD INNOVATIONS is a technology-driven & innovation-driven company that researches & develops smart large-area sensor & interfacing technology. Smarthead Innovations holds proprietary IP on sensorized acoustic drum heads & percussion surfaces. Surface-embedded sensors digitize the tension distribution in a membrane and/or the deformation thereof, static as well as dynamic to allow tracking changes thereto over time. The physical state & deformation of a sensorized membrane surface is converted into a digital signal that can be used for any further purpose. We make sense : when applied onto drumheads, the sensorized membrane-surface acts as an 'interface' in interaction with its user/player. The sensors produce a signal related to the state and/or movement of an acoustic drumhead, or another percussion surface. This sensor signal empowers to record vibrations, and/or, tension distribution over the drumhead. The sensor signal enables the detection of drum strike timing, strike type, strike force, & strike position. The sensor signal, or the processed output thereof, can be outputted to peripheral tools & applications for further processing to generate various specific user applications making a smooth connection between the physical, acoustic, and digital. Smarthead sensors are embedded onto a drumhead membrane's surface, without affecting the acoustical properties of the drumhead itself. Their presence can't be heard. Our technology allows inline integration into the overall manufacturing processes of the drumhead on an industrial scale. It is compatible with coatings, and with single-ply to multi-ply drumhead technology and its construction principles, regardless of the make or anatomy of the drumhead. The cost of the applied sensors remains within the cents per unit, offering a viable consumer-good price point.
