About Social Workout Media
Social Workout Media, pioneering interactive media company, was acquired by Count It Labs, Inc. in 2014. Founded in 2009 by Oliver Ryan, SocialWorkout.com was originally a blog covering all things fitness culture. The site cast a loving but irreverent eye on hot fitness trends, gym classes, personal trainers, fitness media, not to mention Jilian Michaels, Tracy Anderson, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Early on, the blog began to run group fitness challenges, and, by the end of its first full year, the company had attracted a rabid following of devotees. It also raised seed funding, enabling it to build a consumer-facing challenge website. Social Workout 2.0 launched in 2010, allowing user to create personal and group lifestyle challenges around a wide range of healthy behaviors. Over the following several years, the site attracted thousands of users, and built co-branded challenge events with a number of partners, including AOL / Huffington Post, Yoga Journal, Everyday Health, Equinox, and GLAM Media, among others. In 2013, Social Workout formed a partnership with Whole Foods Market to build a corporate wellness business. The service launched in 2014, and included LinkedIn and Tesla Motors among its first clients. That year, the principals of Social Workout decided to focus exclusively on the corporate market, and formed Count It Labs, Inc. to reorganize operations. Count It purchased all of the assets of Social Workout Media. Many of the best ideas of Social Workout live on in Count.It, a cloud-based service designed for to provide "push button" wellness to businesses. The SocialWorkout.com website was shutdown September 1st, 2016, and the domain sold. The original blog archives can now be found at sowoko.com.
