About Society of Project Managers

The Society of Project Managers is an amalgam of learning society and a professional body. The Society was formed in 1994 by a group of professionals as a vehicle for advancing the development of project management. The Society has formed alliances or affiliations with several institutions and associations, both local and overseas, with similar interests to build network and help enhance knowledge and standards of practice of project management. On the international relations front, SPM is a founding member of the Global Alliance for the Project Professionals (GAPPS) and has regularly participated in their thought leadership forums. SPM is a member association of the Asia Pacific Federation of Project Management (apfpm). It has close ties with the Construction Project Management Committee of China Construction Industry Association (CPMC) and the Hong Kong Institute of Project Management (HKIPM). The Objectives of the Society of Project Managers are as follows: - To promote and develop the profession of project management. - To promote and propagate sound managerial, technical and commercial practices relating to the project management profession with the view of enhancing the quality of professional functions undertaken by its members. - To stipulate training and experience requirements which its members may accept as qualifications demonstrating adequate project management competency and to examine and certify suitable individuals of the same. - To support the establishment of formal training programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in project management.
