For over 30 years Sonia’s Place has been a major destination in New York’s Decoration and Designer building. At its’ founding a space was created to display and present a variety of independent wall coverings. More important, a tradition of excellent service was established, which is accomplished by the having the best associates to help the designers find the material they need. In addition, these knowledgeable associates evaluate and select among a wide range of products that appeal to the clients. This is clearly demonstrated by the care and planning that goes into laying out the showroom to assist the designers as they look for that special item of their desire. As is true in everything, change is necessary. Therefore Sonia’s Place made some changes to the showroom, by introducing new products that were in keeping with its core reputation. The enhanced selection of merchandise now included various fabrics that complemented the wall covering. The same care and expertise that was used in displaying the wall covering, was now brought to showing a number of upholstery and specialty fabrics. One of the hallmarks of Sonia’s is the congenial and relaxed atmosphere. Many of the clients have remarked that Sonia’s is a little bit of heaven during the long days in the D&D building. Not only is the staff informative and willing to aid in suggesting solutions to the designers, they can be downright familial with many of the designers. Few showrooms can offer that kind of personalized service. After years of working with individual designers, the experienced associate can quickly determine the kind of patterns that will appeal to that particular designer’s requirements. A consensus of clients who walk through Sonia’s door opine that when they could not find it somewhere else, Sonia’s had the items all along. When a new designer enters the show room, they too begin to experience the personalized service and relationship with Sonia’s associates.
