About Sonic Ground

Sonic Ground will be an independent audiovisual media outlet documenting, publishing, and archiving New York City’s local creative and intellectual voices and the communities they represent. It is an alternative media and communications outlet providing an opportunity for communities, creatives and advocates to record and disseminate information, with particular emphasis on profiling the local efforts of community organizations and activists pursuing social change. Sonic Ground’s mission of creating and sustaining community — both digitally and in person through mobile recording throughout New York City neighborhoods - is particularly valuable following the disruption, isolation and hardship of more than two years of a pandemic, interspersed with widespread protest and political upheaval. Our mission is to provide a space for connection and creativity and to archive the stories and challenges facing the city at a moment of profound transition. Sonic Ground will support the people and communities of New York City by encouraging community engagement and elevating the stories the city holds.
