About Sonoma Valley Historical Society
MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Sonoma Valley Historical Society is Collecting, Preserving and Sharing Sonoma Valley History. The Historical Society was established in 1937 by the descendants of pioneer families and others with the goal of preserving the history of Sonoma Valley. Many families donated personal historic documents. Since 1978 the Historical Society has run the Sonoma Valley History Museum (270 1ST St W) in Depot Park. Historical scholarship and interpretation depend upon free and open exploration and interpretation of the human experience. The Sonoma Valley Historical Society respects all legal, ethical, and cultural standards. In fulfillment of their public trust, we are responsible stewards, giving priority to the protection and management of the historical resources within their care and preserving the physical and intellectual integrity of these resources. Manageing our community’s historical resources in accord with comprehensive policies officially adopted by our organization. The Sonoma Valley Historical Society archives are located that the Marcy House Archives and Research facility at 205 First Street West.
