About Sorrento Writers Festival
The Sorrento Writers Festival is a new four-day cultural and community event focused on bringing writers and readers together. Our inaugural gathering of great ideas, which will run April 27-30, 2023, will take place in one of Victoria's most beautiful coastal villages and will celebrate life on the Mornington Peninsula. We intend the Sorrento Writers Festival to become a year-round organisation that works with our local community to improve literacy, enhance learning, link writers and readers, and to provide safe, stimulating and mutually-respectful environment in which to discuss ideas. Our message: Words matter. They matter in discussions and debates, in speeches and in commentary. They matter in books, newspapers, essays and magazines. They matter in stories for children. Words have the power to make the world a better place. Our objective: To raise money to hold an annual 4-day writers festival, and to support a variety of local literacy and reading initiatives such as Story Dogs, the Mornington Peninsula Foundation, our local primary school libraries, and our own Sorrento Library which, one day, we hope to create. Our 2023 Festival will feature more than 100 writers, journalists, speakers, academics, children's authors and performers across 50+ events. The Continental Hotel in Sorrento is our Festival Hub, with other venues in the town hosting events. Earlybird weekend and day passes go on sale in February.
