Southern Soul creates extraordinary flavour in a hand-held format: ‘low ‘n’ slow’ smoked meats paired with homemade buns, pickles and sauces. Southern Soul is inspired by the BBQ culture and cuisine of the Southern USA, and informed by its South London upbringing. Southern Soul emphasises not only the quality of its food but also the development of its team; it is a place where staff thrive and can build successful careers in hospitality. In November 2024, Southern Soul launches its first bricks-and-mortar site in Canteen Food Hall & Bar, a neighbourhood food hall located on Greenwich Peninsula in London’s creative hub, the Design District. Canteen is just 300 yards from both The O2 Arena and North Greenwich tube station. Southern Soul is open every day from 11.30am to 9.00pm. Southern Soul is the creation of seasoned chef Tom Goddard. The concept is a product of Tom’s twin passions: low ‘n’ slow meat and artisanal bread-baking, developed over ten years as a chef at London’s top grill restaurants Smokstak and Hawksmoor, and as a baker at The Dusty Knuckle. Tom also traded as Hank BBQ at Kerb food markets and other events, to great reviews. Southern Soul’s co-founder and COO Martin Kay is a startup entrepreneur and media consultant, with a background in news and sport media. The combination of Tom and Martin’s experience in the hospitality and media industries, along with their family connection as nephew and uncle, has formed one of London’s most exciting street food concepts in recent years..
