About Southside Youth Development
Southside Youth Development (SYD) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to equipping and empowering Chattanooga's youth by instilling life and leadership lessons through the game of baseball. At the core of SYD's mission is the belief in the transformative power of engaging youth through sports. By providing mentorship and character development opportunities, SYD's programs aim to empower young men and women to become exemplary students, friends, future parents, and community members. Through baseball, participants learn perseverance, initiative, and integrity, equipping them with essential life skills that extend beyond the field. In the summer of 2021, the organization reconditioned the main baseball field at the Emma Wheeler Homes community, elevating its playing conditions to a standard the community had not seen in years. This field serves as more than just a place to play – it serves as a place for community engagement and connection. It is also a hub for SYD’s ongoing mission to provide exposure, education, and experiences to Chattanooga’s youth.
