About Southwest Region Planning Commission

Authorized in 1969 by state law, Southwest Region Planning Commission is one of New Hampshire’s nine regional planning agencies. SWRPC is an association of member municipalities in its service area, which covers 34 towns and approximately 1,000 square miles. SWRPC is governed by its Commissioners – representatives nominated by member municipalities. Commissioners, in turn, elect our Board of Directors, who provide regular guidance and oversight to SWRPC staff. What does SWRPC do? In short, our work can be summarized as follows: 1. We provide technical assistance to our member communities. SWRPC employs a staff of professionals with the expertise and skills to help member municipalities address a wide range of planning issues. 2. We promote regional coordination Transportation infrastructure, housing markets, the labor force, communication networks, watersheds, wildlife habitat—these are just some factors that are key to a thriving region and that span municipal boundaries. Sound management of these resources requires collaboration among local communities. It also demands cooperation among the government, private, and non-profit sectors. We act as a convener and facilitator of cross-jurisdictional and multi-sector dialogue. The issues that we focus on continue to evolve as the needs of our member municipalities change over time.
