Established by Dubai-raised Bharatanatyam artiste Puja Unni, Spanda is a dance school and Indian cultural arts center that is committed to offering the finest Bharatanatyam training in Kalakshetra style. Spanda also provides training for Carnatic Vocal, Indian Arts and Kerala Mural Painting Classes. Bharatanatyam, Carnatic Vocal, Indian Arts and Mural Painting lessons are offered for beginners with little or no formal dance training right up to intermediate and advanced level students. We focus on nurturing students interested in this ethnic art form in an aesthetic, nurturing, fun and unbiased learning environment. We also offer online classes. Spanda is located in Al Nahda, Dubai , it is easily accessible for residents of Dubai and Sharjah. Why Spanda? For Puja Unni, Bharatanatyam is a celebration of lines and spiritual practice. Her commitment to imparting the right education in this Indian classical dance style is evident in the meticulous dance training offered at Spanda alongside regular dance workshops and immersive performing arts sessions conducted for the students by experts who are rooted and well-versed in their art discipline. The school is committed to offering classical dance classes seeped in technique and honouring the true tradition of Bharatanatyam in Kalakshetra style while exploring the contemporary application of the art form; a deviation from competition-focused dance training often seen in the region. Bharatanatyam training at Spanda follows the comprehensive and systematic dance syllabus developed by Puja Unni’s gurus Renjith and Vijna, one of the eminent Bharatanatyam duos who have been performing, choreographing and teaching for the past two decades. Known for their nuanced dancing, inspiring workshops, and collaborations with leading dancers, choreographers and musicians, the couple work together as creative partners in moulding complete individuals through their brainchild: Sāraswatham Foundation.
