A Short History The Spanish Action League of Onondaga County Inc. has been serving the needs of Hispanics in Onondaga County since its founding 40 years ago (1969). It was in November of 1969 that 5 community members with a vision to enhance and enrich this community got together and incorporated what we know today as the Spanish Action League. The names of these community leaders are; Carlos Mendóza, Rafael González, Evelyn Pagán, Juan Fonceca-González, John R Varney. The Spanish Action League, affectionately known as “La Liga,” was established to provide comprehensive services to the Latino community and to address the unique needs arising from the language and cultural barriers. Through a multitude of departments and programs: Careers, Interpretation & Translation, Housing, Domestic Violence, Family Support, and Youth Programs, the Spanish Action League believes that opportunities, economic development and education will bring the community to prosperity as a whole.
