About SPE KFUPM Student Chapter
The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a non-profit professional organization created with two key specific objectives. The first core purpose is to collect, disseminate, and exchange technical knowledge connected with the exploration, development, and production of oil and gas resources and related technologies for key stakeholder benefit. The second deliverable is to provide a range of opportunities for professionals and students alike to enhance their technical knowledge and performance with the purpose of enhancing their future career aspirations and growth potential. The SPE provides Student Chapters from around the world and sets up an operating framework for SPE activities university-wide on a global scale. Student members elect officers annually and each SPE Chapter is sponsored by an individual SPE section. One of the most vibrant and informative Student Chapters is that offered by King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) in Dhahran, which was established in 1996 and has currently more than 400 members including students, junior and senior professionals, and professors. It is recognized for its quality and international best practice research and academic prowess that both extends beyond The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and ingratiates itself with global academic peers. KFUPM students participate in a variety of extra-curricular activities organized through the SPE Student Chapter and all activities function under the auspices of the SPE International. The Chapter’s objectives are of a technical as well as a social nature that revolves around affording students an opportunity to share knowledge and experience with fellow members, arranging excursions to industrial sites, and organizing seminars on some of the Chapter’s technical activities. Cultural events include students’ get-togethers, summer picnics, sports activities and tailored participation in the Annual Career Day at KFUPM and the SPE Upstream Career Day.
