About Spec Theatre

First and foremost, Spec Theatre is situated on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh, Stolo, Squamish, and other Indigenous Nations. We are settlers unsettled working towards reconciliation and relations through evolutionary change in policies, actions and spaces. This is a continuous process and involves incorporating different worldviews and voices in all aspects of our organization, including voices in our governing body. Spec Theatre is a grassroots theatre collective, working towards facilitating, uplifting, collaborating and building long-standing connections and relationships with communities and voices through performance and play. We wish to bear witness and support other local creators' creations, with extra attention for Indigenous, Black, People of Colour, Trans, Two-Spirited, LGBTQ, People with Disabilities and other marginalized and colonial suppressed artistic voices. Our dream is to continue to create theatre, collaborate and facilitate other artists' visions and journeys. We also acknowledge that there is levity and deep reciprocity in this process. We would also like to offer our services which include: - Dramaturgy - Collaborative Creation - Direction - Writing Seminars Our current project is a podcast based on our hit, touring play Artisanal Intelligence, about a hipster AI customer service robot that gains sentience during a demonstration to sell her. The podcast follows the robot and her creator's continuing adventures. Artificial Outings: A Roving Podcast Tour offers short roving tours of different, unique parts of Vancouver, highlighting the diversity of cultures, histories, weird caveats, and oddball facts that make up this beautifully and deeply vast geographical location.
