About Spiritual Care Services of Maine
Spiritual Care Services of Maine was founded in 2021 as a way to connect with and support people suffering from the isolation brought on by the Covid pandemic. With a contract from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), SCS Maine participated in a referral system which allowed us to provide remote visits to people all over the State of Maine. We also partnered with State and Community-based Organizations to develop and present trainings about spiritual tools, moral resilience, and ways to compassionately address the lingering impacts of the Pandemic within our communities. Since then, we continue to serve individual and organizational clients through our referral line which has allowed us to hold space remotely for over 1,500 individuals and counting. In addition, we now regularly sending Chaplains into the field. Here are some of the in-person ways SCS Maine goes to work supporting the citizens of Maine: We support both residents and staff at senior living communities in various ways including "Godly Play" programing at The Cedars which offers meaning making for elderly residents. We maintain a weekly residency at The Living Room allowing those in mental health crisis a listening space while seeking services and community at the resource center. We operate regular hours at both The Homeless Service Center and New Beginnings providing spiritual care to those experiencing homelessness. In addition, our Chaplains regularly accompany The Hope Squad, a volunteer organization that does outreach to unhoused people living on the streets or in encampments in Portland. We provide programming for residents in The Bolduc Correctional Facility. We create educational programing and provide spiritual support to frontline workers dealing with opioid addiction/recovery/prevention/and survivor care.
