About Spoons Charity

SPOONS is a registered charity (No. 1167043) supporting families who experience neonatal care. SPOONS was founded in 2015 by a group of parents who had experienced neonatal care in neonatal units across Greater Manchester. The charity was set up to create a support network providing practical yet vital support to parents of babies who are experiencing neonatal care. The emotional strain parents face can have a negative impact on the whole family, mentally and financially. Our aim is to help families when they need it the most. We provide a peer support service on the neonatal unit and via our community support groups. We facilitate and fund workshops to support families post discharge, which include First Aid, Baby Massage and other workshops. We also fund trauma therapy and counselling for families to support better mental health and alleviate the trauma and stress that can be induced by having a baby in neonatal care. We are able to offer EMDR Therapy, Trauma Yoga, Reiki, Counselling and bonding and attachment sessions. We raise vital funds to improve services and facilities for families on the neonatal unit. We work in partnership with neonatal teams to improve patient experience and parent engagement. We are specifically interested in the Family Integrated Care model and work closely with both parents and neonatal teams to roll this out.
