The purpose of the Sportfishing Association of California (SAC) is to promote tourism and recreational marine activities on the pacific coast. The marine recreational industry is a tremendous economic engine for our region. Your business is one of the many pieces that coexist among that economic engine. In an era of ever increasing state and federal deficits, and tough economic times, it is more important than ever to have a active organization working full time to protect the sportfishing industry and help it not only maintain its successes, but grow. The Sportfishing Association of California (SAC) is constantly working with different agencies such as the USCG, Navy, NMFS, FCC, the Congress, the California Legislature, the Department of Fish and Game, the Mexican Government, etc. who have a direct impact on our sportfishing interests. SAC officers and directors serve on various advisory panels in the state and federal arena and can represent sportfishing’s interests before an adverse action takes place. SAC acts as an early warning system for the marine recreational industry to identify potential obstacles that may impede the future of our businesses, livelihood, and sport we all love. The Sportfishing Association of California (SAC) was founded in 1972 by leaders in the sportfishing industry in Southern California who realized the value of an organization speaking out on behalf of their interests. Now starting in its forth decade, SAC has proven and will continue to prove how valuable it is to sportfishing in California. SAC is incorporated under federal law as a “non-profit business league”, known also as a 501 (c) (6) corporation, and it is operated mainly on dues from its members. Broad industry support is therefore critical.
