SRM360 supports an informed, evidence-based discussion of sunlight reflection methods (SRM) by synthesising, explaining, and communicating the science in a clear and accessible way. As climate extremes affect communities and ecosystems with increasing frequency and severity, there is growing pressure to explore novel technologies that could cool the planet and help to reduce harm. SRM360 is a non-profit knowledge hub which explores the science and evidence behind sunlight reflection methods or solar radiation modification (SRM). Also known as solar geoengineering, or solar climate intervention, these methods would seek to intentionally reduce global temperatures by reflecting a small fraction of incoming sunlight. SRM could work alongside, but could not replace, emissions reduction and greenhouse gas removal efforts. There is a widening gap between the level of scientific understanding about the risks, costs, and potential benefits of SRM, and what is known by most people working in policy, journalism, and the broader climate community. This lack of understanding could lead to uninformed decisions with harmful outcomes. SRM360 works with experts and advisors from around the world to distill the science of SRM, highlight what is known and unknown, and to provide that information through clear and engaging articles, graphics, videos, and podcasts. SRM360 engages with people working in academia, NGOs, policy, media, and beyond, to learn what they want and need to know about SRM, and to help them communicate more effectively about it. SRM360 takes no position on whether SRM should be used: our goal is to enable audiences across society to reach their own informed views. We do not represent any commercial or political interests, and we reveal our sources of funding.
