Mission Statement: To provide service, infrastructure and leadership necessary to advance a safe and sustainable community, maintain a high quality of life, and protect the natural environment for all our citizens. Founded in 1905, St. Lucie County is located on Florida's east coast between Orlando and Miami. Comprised of the City of Fort Pierce (county seat), City of Port St. Lucie and St. Lucie Village, St. Lucie County's population is roughly 287,000. The Board of County Commissioners is comprised of five elected officials that are elected at-large. The county employees roughly 750 full-time employees that manage roughly 11,000 acres of environmentally preserves, more than 50 facilities, 2,300 acres of active parks and 21 miles of coastlines with nearly two dozen beach accesses. In recent years, St. Lucie County has won more than 80 awards from organizations such as American City and County Magazine; International City/County Management Association; National Association of Counties; Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada; Florida Public Transportation Association; Florida Shore & Beach Preservation Association; Florida Public Relations Association; Association of Natural Resource Extension Professionals; Florida City and County Managers Association; American Shore and Beach Preservation Association and others.
