The furniture industry has a sustainability problem – it produces nine million tons of refuse every year. STACKLAB’s Felt Collection is a proof of concept on how to divert material from landfills and to “turn waste into wonders.” From it, STACKABL was born. STACKABL is a joint venture between STACKLAB and Maison Gerard, one of the world’s leading design galleries. This new company has set out to create an environmentally friendly platform that changes the way interior designers and consumers think about collectible and custom design by removing the friction from the traditional design, build, and order process. Forrest explains: “This is an experiment in which we start with the bigger issues and material constraints, and reverse engineer until we arrive back at the product. STACKABL allows us to re-shore jobs and support local economies in a scalable way. The possibilities for what can be designed are endless.” STACKABL is a tech system; it is a proprietary, patent-pending digital configurator platform which allows designers and consumers alike to choose from a live inventory of remnant material from regional manufacturers to create unique furnishings and lighting in real time, with cost and lead time calculations built in. These furnishings are then produced by the regional experts and drop shipped into homes. Every step is optimized to ensure the maximum is done with the minimum. STACKABL empowers local economies while curbing the carbon footprint.
