About Stage the Change
Stage the Change is on a mission to empower students to become global citizens through creativity and performance, and to provide communities with original, inspiring work that serves as a catalyst for change. Our Work: Annual Stage the Change Conference Held each November, this powerful day of learning and collaboration brings together 850 high school students from over 30 racially and economically diverse communities across Long Island and beyond. The event features hands-on workshops in theater, dance, and film; live performances; and conversations with leading artist-activists. It offers participants a meaningful opportunity to connect, reflect, and engage with the complex issues shaping our world and local communities today. Past honored guest speakers include: Kristin Chenoweth · Ali Stroker · Gavin Creel · Brian Stokes Mitchell · Terrence McNally Voices of Change An eight-session program where students from two socio-economically diverse high schools work with teaching artists to create a socially conscious piece based on their own life experiences. Through this process, students learn from both their differences and shared stories, while discovering the power of their artistic voices. Summer Ambassador Program A dynamic, five-day workshop for high school students led by theater professionals. Participants create original theater pieces, develop leadership skills, and serve as official Stage the Change Ambassadors.
