Startup Smartup is an educational resource that inspires students to be young entrepreneurs and provides them with the tools to do so, including in-depth video tutorials, step-by-step guides and connections to local area mentors. The short-term objective is to make students aware they can be entrepreneurs today. Most students simply are unaware that it’s a possibility and don’t know where to begin. Startup Smartup empowers students to do more and be more than they otherwise could have imagined. The midterm objective is to teach students how to be more efficient and effective with their time while earning substantially more than they would working a typical minimum-wage job. If students can work half as many hours and make two to three times the income, they’ll have more time to focus on extracurricular, academic and personal endeavors. The long-term objectives are to better position students for admissions to Universities, for financial aid and ultimately for employment post graduation. Students need all the advantages they can get in today’s competitive environment. In addition to good grades, athletics and extracurricular activities, being a business owner creates a depth of character admissions officers rarely see. Similarly, prospective employers will see a recent graduate who has now owned a business for 5-8 years as a rarity and someone that may stand out from the competition.
