About Steel City Academy

Steel City Academy prepares our students with the knowledge, purpose, power and transformative experiences to choose from boundless opportunities through college and career pathways while strengthening the community of Gary. In redefining school, Steel City seeks to dismantle the false binary of being a school that provides rigorous academics OR transformative, life changing experiences outside of the classroom. We have a track record of providing both! We are currently the ONLY A letter grade school in the city of Gary w based on our academic results, while also outperforming 95% of other students across the nation academically as measured by NWEA. We are also deeply connected to the Gary community and believe we have a moral imperative to empower the next set of Gary leaders through leadership development opportunities. Our school does this through quarterly Gear and Flame Weeks where students work with community partners to learn additional social skills, interests and job related skills. The students also have several after school options to help develop their leadership and academic skills. On top of that, Steel City provides a plethora of field trip experiences including end of the year trips where students go on week long excursions across the country.
