About STEMatch

OUR MISSION: Making STEM education and the opportunities it creates more accessible to people in lower-income households. Despite a skyrocketing demand for entry-level and experienced talent, careers in STEM industries are not equally accessible to all. The path to a STEM career is much more difficult for – and often not visible to– those from lower-income and underrepresented communities. STEMatch was founded to address this by bringing together tech companies and schools to showcase the opportunities created by STEM education in a way that inspires and encourages students to pursue STEM studies and jobs in tech industries. STEMatch focuses on the front and back ends of the educational pipeline. At the front, we work with middle schools and tech companies to educate students about the life-altering opportunities in STEM fields, and inspire their interest in STEM education before we lose them to “tracking” in high schools. Through our work with community colleges and corporate partners, we are building an alternative onramp to high-paying tech jobs for people who can’t afford the time or money required for a 4-year college degree – the education typically required for entry-level STEM jobs--jobs that are chronically-unfilled due to a serious shortage of candidates. Opportunity inequality has created great divisions in our country, and is a stark contradiction with the promise of America -- the land of opportunity. We need to deliver new pathways to rewarding, high-paying careers in high-growth industries to help to close the income and opportunity gaps and rebuild a struggling middle class.
