About STEPS Charity NPC
Steps Charity NPC is a registered South African non-profit organisation. Established in 2005, our core purpose is to improve the lives of children born with clubfoot by preventing disability. Based in Cape Town and operating nationally, we are the only organisation working in this space in South Africa. Steps’ goal is that every child born in Southern Africa with clubfoot has early and effective treatment, and access to care by a health care provider trained in the Ponseti method. Our award-winning model focuses on revolutionising clubfoot treatment, building capacity for excellent care, and maximising impact for all children. Our FOUR PILLARS OF FOCUS directly contribute to the elimination of clubfoot as a form of disability. 1. Training (Training of medical professionals) 2. Clinic Support (Clinic coordinators, parent education, Data capture, M&E) 3. Advocacy (Educate and sensitise community) 4. Braces (Sustainable supply of essential medical devices) OUTCOMES Increased access to Ponseti treatment - Improved effective and well-resourced clinics - Increased awareness and early referral - Improved adherence to treatment IMPACT Child is able to walk on straight flexible feet without pain or disability Around 2,000 children are born every year with clubfoot in South Africa. A child born with clubfoot needs effective and early treatment. Neglected or untreated clubfoot leads to permanent disability and is a barrier to participating fully in economic and social life. A child with neglected clubfoot cannot walk correctly, run, play or go to school like other children. These children face increased psychological and socio-economic burdens, which is a strain on their family, their community, and the economy. Clubfoot is treatable - Expanding best-practice care for Clubfoot patients.
