In 1886, William T. Stevens began his career in real estate as a farm broker, the first in a long line of real estate brokers that included his son, Arthur, his grandson, Donald and his namesake grandson, William T. Stevens, who started his real estate career in 1935. William T. Stevens and George Barkley first founded Barkley & Stevens in 1938. Both went on to sell significant Virginia estates for over fifty years, bringing to every transaction their unique reverence for and stewardship of the area. After a time, Stevens and Barkley parted ways and William T. Stevens founded Stevens & Company where his nephew, Noel Stevens, was a real estate associate. Ross L. Stevens joined Stevens & Company in 1990 and worked alongside his uncle, William T. Stevens, and father, Noel Stevens, until their retirement. The company passed out of the Stevens family in 1988 when a group of investors including Hunter and Flip Faulconer purchased Stevens & Company. Soon after, Hunter and Flip Faulconer gained sole ownership. Flip continued the brokerage as the principal broker until 2017 when she sold the business to Ross L. Stevens, bringing the company full circle. Ross brings over twenty-five years of local real estate experience to the table and continues to own and operate a real estate brokerage typified by honesty, professionalism, and unparalleled local market knowledge paired with a long-standing appreciation for what makes Central Virginia so special.
