About Stichting NMVO

In de strijd tegen medicijnvervalsingen binnen het reguliere distributiekanaal wordt een nieuwe Europese wet van kracht. Vanaf februari 2019 moeten alle EU-landen een Nationaal Medicijnen Verificatie Systeem (NMVS) hebben. Dit betekent onder meer dat op iedere verpakking van UR-geneesmiddelen (geneesmiddelen die uitsluitend op recept verkrijgbaar zijn) een unieke code moet staan. Dit is een 2D-matrixcode (of blokjescode) met een uniek en willekeurig serienummer. Hierin zijn onder meer het landnummer, fabrikantnummer en de houdbaarheidsdatum verwerkt. Alle serienummers worden geüpload in een Europese database en doorgestuurd naar de nationale databases. De Stichting NMVO is systeemeigenaar van het NMVS in Nederland. Apotheken, ziekenhuizen, apotheekhoudende huisartsen en groothandels dienen aan te sluiten op het NMVS om verpakkingen van UR geneesmiddelen te verifiëren of af te melden.
