Sticks & Stones helps children to live happier lives. Every child has the right to fulfil his or her potential free from the damage bullying causes. A Theatre-in-Education social enterprise, Sticks and Stones Anti-bullying Programme™ offers a three-strand approach for the whole school community to help children and young people, teachers and parents to acknowledge, challenge and prevent bullying: “Be The Solution” Anti-bullying Drama Workshops for Students “Addressing Bullying: Putting Policy into Practice” Training for Teachers, School Staff and other stakeholders engaged in promoting tolerance and social inclusion in society. “Understanding Bullying: Beyond the Myths & Stereotypes” Information evenings for parents Our programme aims to heighten awareness of bullying in all its guises, reveal the misery it inflicts and help break the silence that ensures its continuance. Drama is a key element in getting young people to participate and engage with the issues. Using a carefully designed combination of in-depth discussion, communication exercises, role-play and Forum Theatre our facilitators encourage children to explore and articulate their feelings and attitudes towards bullying. Our format encourages empathy, empowers children to take responsibility for their actions, and equips them with the skills to address bullying in their environment; to become the change agents in their class. Our handbook written by Professor Mona O’Moore, Head of The Anti-bullying Center, TCD, will be provided on-line as added support for each client school.
