About Stitch The Gap
Stitch the Gap is a not-for-profit Social Enterprise with a vision to have a direct impact on climate change by equipping individuals with the sewing machine skills to reuse, repair and repurpose fabric. By removing barriers to learning, we empower individuals to learn new life skills, improve wellbeing, and increase employment opportunities for those marginalised by society. Applying a cohesive circular business model, we don’t lecture on WHY it is vital to transform our Fashion and textiles industry we define the HOW to transform. Through EDUCATION we bridge the skills gap and teach life-long sewing skills every week. We provide the TOOLKIT so that you have the sewing machines to repair the skills gap and a means to ensure the machines themselves are serviced and recycled to be kept in circulation and we consolidate all of this by providing a PATHWAY for this skill to be applied in your everyday life (with the mental health and empowerment benefits that brings) as well as a destination into the workplace, volunteering and further education. We do this with TRANPARENCY so that you can see where your fabric and clothes come from. Using donated fabric that was destined for landfill is key to our business model - fundamental in the learning process so that we demonstrate what can be achieved by repurposing, reusing and repairing what is already in abundance within your own community. We currently offer sewing-skills training, service and repair of sewing machines, alterations of clothing. skills matching and a scrap store of fabric
