About Stories In My Backyard (SIMBY)
Stories In My Backyard (SIMBY) provides Black youth access to culturally relevant media arts education through online and in-person experiences led by Black instructors to foster belonging, representation, and media literacy. Through online and in-person learning, our vision is to rejuvenate arts programming within formal and informal educational settings that overlook our youth’s natural investment in the media arts. In this work, we also aim to motivate Black youth to define and reach their full potential by providing a sense of belonging that’s missing in their current learning experiences.
