About Story Planet
Story Planet is a nonprofit organization dedicated to amplifying the voices of children and young people in Toronto's equity-seeking communities. Our creative writing workshops inspire kids to imagine and tell stories while building literacy skills and confidence in the value of their words and ideas. We inhabit a unique place at the intersection of creativity, social justice, and education. Our Intentions - To empower all young people as storytellers - To encourage young people to create written, visual, and oral stories that reflect both their full imaginations and their lived experiences - To celebrate that the children we serve are of diverse cultural backgrounds, including Black and Indigenous, as well as diverse gender identities and abilities, and to show up for them - To ensure that our artist facilitators are representative of this diversity, so that we actively reflect the children we serve - To acknowledge that different communities face different obstacles and realities and to create a safe space for sharing, processing, and growing - To remain open to feedback and be in constant review of how we can better serve the youth we engage with
