About Student Engineers Educating Kids
SEEK is a service organization and class run and led by UT Engineering students. UT students leads weekly mentoring sessions with several different elementary and middle schools in Austin, engaging students in hands-on engineering and science projects. SEEK also works within our community with organizations like Texas Kids Read, a nonprofit that donates books to students in need, the Thinkery children's museum, the Bullock Texas State History Museum, Caitlin's Smiles, and more. Volunteers also engage members of the community at UT events like Girl Day, Longhorn Halloween, and UT Tours, a semesterly event SEEK holds, inviting hundreds of students and their families to tour UT Engineering facilities and learn more about what Texas Engineers do. SEEK strives to provide lower-income elementary students the opportunity to explore the idea of higher education and a career path in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) fields, working primarily with Title I schools, where over 40% of the campus' students live under the poverty line. Through SEEK we believe that we can encourage kids to make the right decisions and also inspire them to be the engineers of tomorrow.
