About Studio PL1

PL1 is a fashion studio born from the ambition to revive fashion manufacturing in Plymouth. We serve as a hub for fashion enthusiasts, local businesses, young designers and brands, offering a studio for sampling and production, workwear clothing and training programs. With a community-driven spirit, our mission is to bring a circular economy to the city and foster sustainable practices to contribute to the future of fashion manufacturing in the UK. We embrace innovation in design, production and social responsibility that fulfils a genuine need of our customers. Our aim at PL1 is to foster a positive fashion culture and cultivate strong relationships within the community to ultimately have a positive impact on Plymouth. Abigail Schaefer and Anna Masclans are the directors and founders of PL1; two fashion designers and educators with 20 years of industry experience together, based in Plymouth. Both have degrees in Fashion Design, whilst Abigail has since completed her MA in ‘Entrepreneurship in Creative Practice’, and Anna completed an MA in ‘Creative Education’ at Arts University Plymouth. They have experience in studio-based careers in Europe and UK, manufacturing expertise and an extensive teaching background on creating and delivering programs for formal and non-formal education.
