Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is a proven intervention that can greatly reduce the human and economic costs of CVD. It is a treatment plan for patients who have suffered a primary acute event to reduce their risk of mortality by 26% and their risk of rehospitalisation by 42%. CR is extremely effective but because the model of care has been taken from the West, we are yet to see these benefits in lower income countries, where due to resource constraints the Western model is infeasible. Sukoon is changing the model of care to meet the resource constraints of lower income countries. By employing technology, we can make CR home-based - an approach advocated for and tested by many leading researchers in the field. As a result, we can begin to see the full mortality and rehospitalisation benefits of CR. If we were to serve our obtainable market of 472,000 patients in Karachi, our beachhead, tomorrow, we could save 6,100 lives and 200,000 rehospitalisations in one year. This would drastically reduce pressures on the healthcare system while saving patients £112 million in healthcare costs.
