About Summit Academy Charter School
Summit Academy is a tuition free, college preparatory public charter school for 6th – 12th grade scholars in Brooklyn, New York. Summit Academy is a BES Fellow Founded School under the leadership of Founder and Executive Director Natasha Campbell. Building Excellent Schools (BES) serves as a national model for supporting excellence in public education through the national charter school movement. Summit Academy brings the benefits of rigorous scholarship to one of Brooklyn’s most underserved communities. We provide scholars in South Brooklyn with a public education that addresses their academic needs and delivers on the aspirations they and their families hold for them. SACS prepares scholars to reach grade level expectations and develop the skills, competencies, and character necessary for success in college. The arduous task of establishing Summit Academy began in August 2007. What began with community leaders and residents fighting for quality education in an underserved community has become a movement to transform the lives of children in CSD 15. Summit Academy promises to bridge the gap and enable scholar to reach new heights. OUR MISSION Summit Academy Charter School bridges the gap between aspirations and realities by preparing 6th through 12th grade scholars to gain acceptance to, excel in and graduate from college by using three pillars of success: mastery of core subjects, character building, and community leadership. KEY BELIEFS / GUIDING PRINCIPLES The name Summit Academy has significant meaning and represents the overall mindset going into the creation of the school. Summit Academy is a metaphor for success. The summit is the top, the peak, and that is the goal for each scholar at school. This is the aim for our scholars. Whether it is academically, artistically, socially or through service, we want each child to be at the top of her/his game.
