Sun Lighting has been family-owned and operated, and a part of Tucson's business community for over 57 years. Mike Levkowitz, the founder, started selling lighting fixtures out of his home in 1953. After some success in the home-based business, he decided to open a retail store. Although this first store was anything but elaborate, it became highly profitable, eventually requiring a much larger facility. With this move came a change in the image to a do-it-yourself warehouse to mimic the popular home centers of the time. As both the business and Mike grew older, his youngest son Danny was eager to take over and make changes in the family business. Sun Lighting Showrooms in Tucson and Tempe Arizona In 1992, Danny and Anita Levkowitz purchased Sun Lighting and began to reassess the lighting and home furnishings industry. They set as their goal to establish the most elegant showroom in Arizona. To achieve this mark, they expanded on their lighting base to include home furnishings, sinks and faucets, vanities, fireplaces, mirrors, artwork, landscape lighting, LED lighting and accessories. With this change in direction came a total revamping of the look and feel of the showroom. Gone are the warehouse feel and the do-it-yourself attitude. In its place is a 20000 square foot lighting boutique designed around "vignettes", each of which tells a complete story. Lighting, furniture, and accessories blend and invite the customer to imagine a complete "look" in their home. Today, while custom lighting still makes up the predominance of sales the showroom stocks an array of furniture and accessory items. Truly, the decision made by Danny and Anita in 1992 has made Sun Lighting THE place to shop in Arizona.
