ABOUT SYA: The Sunburst Youth ChalleNGe Program, located in Los Alamitos, is a Community High School, run by the California National Guard in partnership with the Orange County Department of Education. * The Academy is a 5 1/2 month long residential “military style” academy structured to promote an academic environment where they will earn 65 High School credits, develop leadership, job skills, and academic skills while improving self-esteem, pride, and confidence. * Are you ready to change your life? Do you desire to change but don’t know how to do it? Then take that first step. OUR MISSION: The mission of the Sunburst Youth Academy National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program is to intervene in and reclaim the lives of 16-18-year-old high school dropouts, producing program graduates with the values, life skills, education, and self-discipline necessary to succeed as productive citizens. OUR VISION: The vision of the Sunburst Youth Academy (SYA) is to be recognized as the leading alternative educational program for High School Dropouts. SYA will meet the unique needs of its Cadets and assist them in making a successful transition to adulthood by fostering and perpetuating the Eight Core Components of ChalleNGe. Through mentoring and education, our graduates will be provided the life skills to be successful in their future endeavors. The next class begins on Jan 6th, 2019. Eligibility Requirements: * You must Volunteer for the program * 16-18 years old (must be 16 by the first day and cannot turn 19 before the start of the program) * Legal resident of the United States and of California * Students at-risk of dropping out of high school or credit deficient * Students free from any serious involvement with the law, free of felony charges and no pending court proceedings * Live within one of the following counties: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego
